Toad In The Hole

This is a fun recipe, with in fact has nothing to do with toads, frogs or any other amphibian. I just wanted to see if I could get your attention, by giving it the name. It's a delicious breakfast recipe, I hope you all will enjoy it.

16 pork sausage links
1 tbsp. vegetable oil
1 1/4 c. milk
4 large eggs
1/2 tsp. salt
1 1/2 c. flour

Preheat oven to 450.
Place sausages in a 9" square pan, about 3" deep. Rub sausages with oil and also oil the bottom and sides of the pan too. Bake until lightly browned, about 15 minutes.
While the sausages are cooking, whisk together the milk, eggs and salt in a bowl and set aside. When the sausages are close to being down, add flour to the milk mixture and whisk until smooth.
Transfer sausages to a plate and set aside. Pour just enough mixture into the hot pan to just cover the bottom. Return to the oven and bake until the batter is set, about 5 minutes. Then arrange the sausages on top of the set batter and quickly pour the remaining batter over the sausages.
Return to the oven and bake until the batter billows up around the sausages and has a crusty top, about 25 minutes. Cut into squares and serve immediately, because the crust will sink as it cools.
